Air Conditioning – Central OR Window

There are many types of air conditioning systems that can be used to cool your home.

The two most popular are; central air conditioning and room air conditioning.

Central air conditioning cools your whole house by circulating air through ducts that are installed within your home. The hot air from your home is pulled through these ducts in order to be transformed into cold air. Once the air is cold it is then pumped back down the ducts and cools your home. The duct system is based on a system of supply and return. Air continues to be circulated through the system in order to reach the desired temperature intended for your whole home. Considering the fact that your home will be one solid temperature, the central air system will work at a solid pace in order to cool your home.

Room air conditioning, better known as window or wall air conditioners, can only cool a certain amount of space. The unit is mounted into the wall or window of a specific room. The plus size to window air conditioning is that unless it is not a large unit it does not need its own, most of the air conditioners will plug right into a power outlet in your home. Window air conditioners are single, self sustaining units that exhaust heat and humidity from the specific room to the outside. Similar to how a car’s air conditioning works, the single unit will only be able to cool a certain square footage. For example; if you buy a unit in order to cool the downstairs of your home, depending on how big the space is, the whole downstairs could be cooled. But if you were to close doors only one area would be cool and the other areas that were cooled off would be sweltering hot. Same goes for the second story of your home. Hot air rises so all that hot air that was once in your house is now upstairs. Window or wall air conditioners do not take out any hot air from your home in order to recirculate it and turn it into cool air. This kind of air conditioning takes the hot air from outside and turns it into cool air in order to be circulated into your home.

Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to each:

Central Air Conditioning

Cools your whole house; operates with the use of one thermostat

Air quality is improved and can be controlled. The many filters will be able to take pollutants out of the air; certain features are also available to stop pollutants from entering your home

Central air conditioning systems are essentially very easy to operate

Does not take up any space in your home or block anything from your view of your yard or inside your home

Central air conditioning units are more efficient and will save you energy and money

Central air conditioning is very quiet

You do not have to do any repairs. New installs come with warranties on parts and services. All you have to do is call up a technician.

If you do not have your system maintained you could be breathing in harmful pollutants

To install a system could take up to a few hours and can cost you thousands of dollars, depending on how big your system needs to be in order to cool your home

The outside unit can could potentially be destroyed by any serious weather conditions. Also any overgrown trees or shrubs can negatively affect the efficiency of your system and can also cause damage

If your system breaks or is not working, it is up to you to fix it or replace it and this can consume a lot of time as well as money

Window/Wall Air Conditioning

You may only need one unit for the whole downstairs

Window/wall air conditioners are easy to install; and can also be easily removed and stored away

Inexpensive and more practical for those who have to watch their spending

If you shut doors to certain rooms, they will be sweltering hot. Hot air also rises, so if you are heading upstairs be ready to sweat. This could also imply that you may need other units in other rooms meaning that more energy is being used to power more than 1 machine and you could see an increase in your electricity bill

Once they are installed they can not be easily relocated to another part of the house.

If they are in a window they will block the view from inside and outside of the home

If you have multiple units in your home, it could put a hole in your pocket when the electricity bill comes; you may have to monitor the use of each system more carefully

When choosing an air conditioning for your home, you need to keep in mind how much you would want to spend and how much you can afford to spend. Central Air Conditioning is a bigger investment than a window/wall air conditioning but keep in mind there are more advantages to having central air than disadvantages. Although window/wall units seem like a good idea they are putting a band-aid over a cut that should be getting stitches.

Central air conditioning is the way to go!

Are Solar Power Cars a Realistic Option? – Starpower Electricians

Solar power cars may be the wave of the future. Or not.

True solar powered cars are actually electric vehicles powered by solar panels. The panels produce electricity by converting the sun’s rays into energy stored in batteries. These batteries then power the vehicle.

The problem is that makers of solar-powered cars haven’t figured out how to solve some very big problems…problems that keep true solar cars from being commercially viable.

In order to harness the energy of the sun effectively, solar-powered cars have had to be extremely lightweight plus they have to be designed so as to be as close to aerodynamically perfect as possible…and neither of these limitations makes for a good road vehicle. After all, don’t you want a car that can carry at least 5 people and go 70 mph on the highway? And how about air conditioning?

If that’s what you want from a vehicle, you don’t want a solar-powered car…not yet. In the first place true solar-powered cars can currently carry no more than 2 people. Now, that might be great if what you want is a sports car. But, if you want a sports car, you probably want it to go more than a top speed of 60 miles per hour.

Granted, ongoing work on solar cells will allow them to become much, much smaller and the cars they are used on to become more “user-friendly”.

But, in the meantime, just because true solar powered cars might still be the stuff of dreams, solar powered hybrid vehicles could actually turn out to be pretty practical.

Indeed, systems that use solar energy to charge a hybrid vehicle’s battery pack (along with a supplemental solar battery system) actually allow for hybrid cars to operate for extended periods in the electric (rather than gas) mode before needing to be charged. The use of such a solar power charging system could increase fuel economy by at least 25%.

By reducing dependence on recharging the hybrid’s battery by running it on solar power, rather than gasoline power, the use of solar energy makes hybrid vehicles even more “green” than they already are.

Nowadays, solar panels rebates have become very popular incentives for commercial and residential power users to begin using solar energy. Solar panel system generates electricity from sunlight through its cells. A rebate is an idea from a government that helps to subsidize the price of installing panels. This makes it more affordable for all groups of people whether they are rich or middle class.

There are various rebates around the world, and they are different in each state and country. However, most countries now simply have a feed-in-tariff scheme which subsidizes the price of installing a solar system.

As solar rebate offers financial support to businesses, households and community groups, so they can produce solar power on their own by installing small-scale electricity systems. Solar credits are provided in the form of RECs’ (Renewable Energy Certificates) for people who have installed a new system. The level of support provided by solar credits depends on the cost of RECs and the location and size of the solar panel system.

The latest solar credit scheme is now very beneficial; save thousands off a grid connected solar system. Businesses, homeowners and community groups are eligible for this rebate program. There are a number of rebates available for solar system that includes STCs (small-scale renewable energy scheme) and FIT (feed-in-tariff). In FIT scheme, the extra power that you don’t use is feed into the grid. The amount paid to you per kWh for that unused electricity produced by a solar power system. Feed-in-tariff depends on the energy provider and the state.

You can literally save many dollars on grid connected and off grid solar panels if you go for one of the solar panel rebates or grants. The latest solar rebate scheme means that installing a solar system and producing solar power is a significantly viable investment. It is the government’s commitment to reduce the amount of electricity in the grid. The quantity of rebate and the eligibility situations vary from state to state. Even within a same country, there may be variations.

In the UK, many people are enjoying grants up to 2,500 pounds that can be rewarded both for solar hot water and solar panel systems. US people are getting advantage from rebates that may range from zero to above $26,000.

It’s time to find your eligibility for a rebate. While some governments need you to be an inhabitant of the place for a fixed time period, some others may have ceiling on the rebate that a single house can get benefit. A few governments sometimes use property value and personal income as a scale to consider the valid rebate and sometimes, seasonable rebates are also offered to solar energy users.

It is necessary to discover whether you are eligible or not for the rebates before installing solar panels. It is possible that sometimes, the rebates may be applicable only for specific panels. Get a clear idea about whether you can get benefit from rebates and tax or not.
